Remarkably there is still low awareness of the Housing & Planning Act 2016 which is supposed to drive the demand for self and custom build housing.

Six months from the close of the 2020-21 base period for the custom and self-build registers, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities has published the latest data.

This data shows a broadly positive, but slow, pattern of growth of people joining the registers compared with the previous year.

What does the new research tell us?

With demand for self-build and custom-build plots out-performing the increase in planning permission, will local authorities be forced to include further development of custom build plots on new housing sites through the section 106 obligation?

If your local authority demands the inclusion of these types of plots within your development plans, our custom-build experts provide a free service to all land promoters and housebuilders. The service includes evidenced demand for custom build within a given location, advice on plot sizes, what to avoid, and how to phase parcels. We are also able to create design codes, plot passports, and concept house designs to complement your master plan.

Jeff Tomlinson, Business Development Manager at Potton Custom Build says, "essentially the free service creates a complete solution to custom build in line with the Housing & Planning Act 2016 as well as creating a supply chain partner that can be adopted by the successful developer."
